Recent Success Stories

Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless

A government agency in Savannah,  GA, this organization coordinates services for homeless individuals in the county.  In July of 2006 it had been without an executive director for several months. While its search continued, StepOne was able to balance its budget, identify new sources of revenue, resolve several outstanding personnel issues, and institute checks and balances in its operating system.

Savannah Area Behavioral Health Collaborative (SABHC)

A non-profit agency serving low-income individuals suffering with mental illness, StepOne helped SABHC redesign its service delivery model to be prepared for new state regulations including fee-for-service, increased child and adolescent, and group homes. Additionally StepOne reworked its by-laws and improved standards of care.

Memorial Health University Medical Center

Over several years, StepOne worked with Memorial Health on its uncompensated care issues developing metrics to quantify its investment in community programs. By helping Memorial Health institute a continuum of care built on existing infrastructure, Memorial Health is now receiving state and national recognition as a leader in community investment.

Days Ferry Productions

Days Ferry Productions is the production company for best selling author, actress, philanthropist, activist, and humanitarian, Victoria Rowell. StepOne recently worked with Days Ferry to develop a business infrastructure for Victoria and her ongoing book tour The Women Who Raised Me, which address the needs within our national foster care system and mentoring opportunities. During the engagement, StepOne helped with speeches with Senator Hillary Clinton, interfaced with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the 75th Annual Conference of Mayors, the Eight Annual Meeting of Black Philanthropists, the 98th Annual NAACP Convention, the Congressional Black Caucus, and a large number of organizations around the country working with foster families and children.

Community Projects

Learning Center for Low-Income Neighborhood

StepOne was instrumental in suggesting that a nationally accredited early education learning center, focusing on children ages six weeks to fours, and located in an economically challenged area of the city would be a great project. The end result -- a donated facility with $800,000 in renovation costs and a team from United Way agencies that began the task of developing curriculum, advisory board, and ongoing commitment. In October of 2007, the Lady Bamford Early Childhood Education Center opened in West Savannah as a cornerstone to the continued renewed growth of that portion of the city.

Community Collaborative for Low-Income and Uninsured Behavioral Health

StepOne was asked to participate in a project to address behavioral health services for low-income and uninsured individuals. By working with established nonprofit and for profit organizations, StepOne designed a service delivery model that built off of the strengths of existing community infrastructure and combined that with wrap-around services including housing, job training, and health care. The result is an organization that operates 50% more effectively and efficiently than the prior model, whose constraint was one of construct not ability.

Community Planning Organization for Uninsured

StepOne recognized that several Chatham County organizations would be better served if they worked cooperatively under the same umbrella of communication. StepOne worked with the county government to compile the data to determine what populations would be best served with which programs. The result is a consortium of providers who work collaboratively to serve the ininsured.

Volunteer-based Health Center

StepOne helped to determine the location for an operation serving primary to care to the uninsured in Chatham County, GA. Through intensive research, StepOne determined the location for the operation, developed the board of directors, wrote the business plan and sustainability model, and the protocols for operation. StepOne even participated in changing state law to allow retired volunteer physicians to be able to participate in the facility. The operation is based on treating all patients with dignity and respect.
